“Fracturing Patterns of Teeth Based on 25 Years of Clinical Microscope Evaluation"

Restorative dentistry as taught today remains mired in its GV Black foundation. That dogma often leads to brutal weakening of the tooth even in the smallest of cavity preparations. In addition, there is a general lack of even the most basic biomechanical engineering principles in restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, and endodontics. Dr. Clark will show fracturing patterns in both the coronal and radicular part of the tooth, then use Finite Element Analysis and other evidence to formulate treatment recommendations. The presentation will be woven with input from mechanical engineer, Dr. Paul McMullin.

Topics:

Stress, Strain, Crack Initiation and Crack Propagation in Teeth. Crack Identification in the coronal of the tooth. Restorative Dentistry.

Attendees will:
  1. Gain an appreciation of the new science of strong teeth
  2. Understand the definition and role of Peri-Cervical Dentin and uniform wall thickness  in endodontic access
  3. Appreciate long-term structural failure patterns in restoratively and endodontically treated teeth and how to mitigate said failure patterns

Affiliations:

Co-Director of Bioclear Learning Centers.  Inventor of the Bioclear Matrix System

About the Presenter:

Dr. Clark is co-director of Bioclear Learning Centers International. He founded the Academy of Microscope Enhanced Dentistry. He is on the editorial board for several journals and has lectured in 20 different countries. Dr. Clark’s interests include the re-designing of restorative and endodontic cavity preparations; an overhaul of the tragically outdated GV Black cavity shapes.

He and Dr. John Khademi are widely acknowledged as the fathers of Minimally Invasive Endodontics, which at first was rejected by most North American endodontists, but is now being embraced by the mainstream.

Dr. Clark published the first guide and classification system for dentin and enamel cracks based on 16 power magnification and has conducted studies on cracked teeth.

He has designed numerous instruments, burs, wedges, matrices, separators and equipment and has written chapters for both esthetic dentistry and endodontic textbooks.
