“Decompression in Endodontic Treatment: A Technique Overview”

Decompression is a conservative surgical technique to manage large lesions in the jaws. In cases with large periapical lesions of endodontic origin, decompression may be an useful adjunct to non surgical endodontic treatment. Even though the mechanism by which decompression works is poorly understood, when successful, the clinical results can be quite dramatic. This presentation describes the case selection, clinical technique of surgical decompression, applications and limitations of this technique with the aid of clinical case scenarios with long term follow-up.

Attendees will learn:

  1. To describe the clinical applications of decompression.

  2. Case selection for decompression.

  3. Clinical technique of decompression.
