“High Temperature Thermoplasticized Injectable Gutta Percha Obturation”
It is widely accepted that obturation is an essential step in endodontic treatment, with the goal to fill the three-dimensional space of root canal systems as completely and densely as possible. In an effort to achieve this goal, many techniques employ the use of heat to soften a mass of gutta percha, in order to facilitate hydraulic distribution of the material throughout the complex internal anatomy of the tooth. The purpose of this presentation is to discuss the use of a “squirt” obturation technique as a method of obturation through a review of available literature and short case series. A review of technique, as well as the potential advantages and risks of the technique will be discussed.
Attendees will learn:
1. An overview of “squirting” as an obturation method, with suggested procedural steps.
2. The potential benefits and indications for the use of the “squirt” technique.
3. The potential risks when using the “squirt” technique.
