"Seeing is not always believing: an introduction to critical thinking."
Critical thinking is a subject matter that has been discussed by philosophers and scientists for thousands of years. Many definitions have been proposed to describe this concept, which ultimately is a process of recognizing how and why we believe what we see, hear, and read. Included in a critical thinking process is being cognizant of different sides of an argument, and being able to apply an analytical, logical, and systematic approach to new and old ideas, all while being both inquisitive and curious. In this presentation, principles of critical thinking will be discussed with the goal of incorporating such reasoning into clinical care to benefit our patients and ultimately improve health in our own communities and beyond.

About the Presenter:
Michael Glick is Professor and Executive Director, Center for Integrative Global Oral Health, School of Dental Medicine, University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Glick has authored more than 350 publications, including original research articles, editorials, and book chapters, and has written, edited, and co-edited 10 textbooks. Among these several editions of the seminal text in oral medicine – Burket’s Oral Medicine.
Dr. Glick is the immediate past Dean, School of Dental Medicine, University at Buffalo, past-President of the American Board of Oral Medicine, served as Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of the American Dental Association from 2005 to 2020, and chaired FDI/World Dental Federation’s Vision 2020 and co-chaired FDI’s Vision 2030.
