Designing and Understanding Clinical Trial Data

Although we have had many sessions at the IAE and TDO meetings over the years, it's clear that a wide range of clinicians and media still don't understand the numbers or analysis. It has also become clear that despite these efforts we still don't have a very sophisticated understanding of these topics. If there was ever a need for increased numeracy, it could not have been more clear from the events of the last year.

This seminar-format presentation will review a few key concepts and the evidence in an effort to give the clinician a better understanding of those events.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Understand the roles of prior probability in posterior probability.
  2. Recognize common cognitive biases that can lead to systematic errors.
  3. Understand how these issues can affect clinical decision-making and patient outcomes in practice.

Bio:
Dr. Khademi received his DDS from the University of California San Francisco and his certificate in endodontics and did his MS on digital imaging from the University of Iowa. He is in full-time private practice in Durango Colorado and was an Associate Clinical Professor in the Dept. of Maxillofacial Imaging at USC and is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at SLU. In his “prior life”, he wrote software for laboratory automation, instrument control, and digital imaging. He lectures internationally about CBCT, clinical trial design, outcomes, and conventional endodontic techniques. As a Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) member for over 20 years, his background in medical radiology allows him a perspective shared by very few dental professionals.
